Rosie creating a vanilla latte

Rosie creating a vanilla latte

I captured this photo after a customer ordered a vanilla latte, snapping the photo of Rosie. The coffee cups on the left side of the image, and Rosie’s focus on the vanilla latte add emphasis to the photo of her career – making coffee. Her focus on the cup she is making proves her hard work and dedication to making the best coffee around. I chose to focus on people and capturing their emotions. This photograph of Rosie does that because I captured it during real life while Rosie was intent on the coffee making process.

A Walk in the Park

A Walk in the Park

While walking around Duke gardens, admiring flowers with a friend, I watched for people enjoying the flowers as well. This couple, visiting the United States, was quickly heading towards another section of the garden. You notice the couple is on a walk because their feet are in sync with one another and you see the walk way and vegetation leading them around the bend.  Focused on people, I liked this couple because they were holding hands, representing love. Although you cannot see their faces, you know that they have feelings toward each other and that is expressed in their body language.

Enjoying the first snowfall of the semester

Enjoying the first snowfall of the semester

After discovering that the snow was actually sticking to the ground, a group of girls ran out to enjoy the snowfall. Kathryn immediately stuck out her tongue and looked toward the sky to enjoy the taste of snow. The snowflakes in the background and foreground of the image add to the context of the story. The snow is evident because the big drops lit up by the flash of the camera. Kathryn’s body language demonstrates excitement through her facial expression and open arms. The darkness in the background makes Kathryn stand out and immediately draws you into the photograph. This photo demonstrates body language along with facial expression caught in the moment of excitement for snow.

Eating the fresh snow

Eating the fresh snow

Peyton loves to eat snow and even after her mother has told her not to, she still does it. The look in Peyton’s eyes say it all. She knows she shouldn’t eat the snow, but looking at mommy while tasting the snow, she proves her defiance.  Her bright colored clothes stand out against the white snow and the snowball about to reach her mouth highlights the action of eating the snow.  A fun aspect of people photography is a child, and a child playing in the snow creates a fun and innocent atmosphere.

Jacob enjoys making fresh tracks in the snow.

Jacob enjoys making fresh tracks in the snow.

Jacob’s bright coat and gloves immediately draw your attention because he stands out against the bright white snow. His facial expression of happiness underneath his hood creates the fun atmosphere. I captured this photograph after telling Jacob to turn around and come back towards me, after he had walked several feet to create new tracks in the snow.  People photography is about waiting for the moment and being quick to capture it when it happens, I knew I wanted to see Jacob’s face so calling out then quickly snapping the shutter captured this fun photograph.
